Geum-Myeong is sent to the hospital in When Life Gives You Tangerines Episode 11. Yeong-Beom arrives. Ae-Sun remembers the guy. She ran into his family when she and her husband took Geum-Myeong to the school. The guy’s father teased Geum-Myeong.
Episodes 11-12
Ae-Sun overhears the couple’s conversation. It seems that Yeong-Beom has given the ring to Geum-Myeong. He wishes her to move out of the house after they get married. He doesn’t know how he will live if he loses her. He cries to mention the marriage. He promises to go home to persuade his mother. He asks her to let his mother like her more. Ae-Sun cannot listen to it. She questions Yeong-Beom why his mother doesn’t like her daughter. He’s silent and he doesn’t answer her. She fights it back that she doesn’t like him.
Two years later, Eun-Myeong joins the army. Chung-Seob is 28 years old. He joins the army as well. He doesn’t tell it to Geum-Myeong. She’s lost because they were colleagues. They ate noodles together and they went home together. She thinks he should tell it to her. She pays attention to the painting at the corner.
She removes the scarf from the painting. It’s the painting he painted her. The relationship ends after Chung-Seob left. Yeong-Beom has worked hard for two years. The parents of both sides have a meeting because of the wedding. Ae-Sun and her husband come to the restaurant early. The guy’s family comes after they waited for them for one hour.
Geum-Myeong greets Yeong-Beom’s parents after they walked into the room. She cares for future mother-in-law and father-in-law that if they got carsick. Yeong-Beom’s mother Bu-Young doesn’t say sorry. Ae-Sun keeps saying that it’s fine.
Yeong-Beom’s father Geum-Myeong reaches out his hand to Gwan-Sik. Gwan-Sik shakes the man’s hand tightly. He doesn’t want to expose his hands as a fisherman. Geum-Myeong shares soup for everyone when the elders are talking. There’s only soup base when she tries to serve herself some soup.
Ae-Sun isn’t happy. She knows her daughter is learning to be a good daughter-in-law. She gives her soup to Geum-Myeong. Bu-Young continues to be strong. She mentions Geum-Myeong doesn’t know how to do housework. She thinks she needs to learn a lot. She asks her to resign and take care of the family after she gets married.
Geum-Myeong is rude. He hands over the bowl to Geum-Myeong. He asks her to serve him a bowl of soup. Gwan-Sik hints at Yeong-Beom that he needs to protect his woman. This is why Ae-Sun never thought she had a hard time in her mother-in-law’s family. She remembers Gwan-Sik was the first one who came to the women’s table for having meal with his wife and his daughter. He used his actions to tell Ae-Sun that they’re comrades in arms.
Yeong-Beom stands up. He tries to help Geum-Myeong. Ae-Sun walks to him. She takes over the spoon. She doesn’t wish Bu-Young to blame her daughter for not being able to do anything. Because she never told Geum-Myeong to do the babysitter job.
Yeong-Beom’s parents only care if Geum-Myeong can cook soup. Ae-Sun and her husband sent Geum-Myeong to the school not for letting her learn to serve her in-laws. Ae-Sun gets angry when she thinks about it. She complains it to Gwan-Sik that Geum-Myeong didn’t dare to say anything in front of Yeong-Beom’s parents. Gwan-Sik doesn’t wish the two to get married. But they cannot let their daughter be sad as her parents.
The two families appoint to go to choose Hanbok fabric. Ae-Sun likes pink. But Bu-Young chooses the fabric like red bean soup for Ae-Sun. They have a talk after Geum-Myeong went to pick up her boyfriend. Bu-Young wishes Ae-Sun to stop the wedding. Her son is her whole life. She cannot accept that his son marries a poor girl. She thinks Ae-Sun’s family is the tree which grows up under the shadow. She knows it’s not match for the big tree which grows up under the sunshine. Bu-Young is easy after she confessed. She doesn’t know her action bringing trouble to her son.
Ae-Sun isn’t happy when she has meal with Bu-Young. Geum-Myeong doesn’t know the truth. She blames her mother for ruining her marriage. The mother and the daughter have a fight. Geum-Myeong knows her mother compromised. She thinks she flattered Bu-Young because she thinks she’s not match for her boyfriend.
Ae-Sun explains it to Geum-Myeong that she worried that her in-laws will be bad to her. So she tried her best to endure it. She reminds her that she’s their treasure. They will feel painful when she’s wronged outside. Geum-Myeong wants to get together with her boyfriend. She doesn’t plan to break up with the guy.
Bu-Young cannot stand it. She visits Geum-Myeong. She mistook that Ae-Sun can convince her daughter. She doesn’t expect that Geum-Myeong decided to get married. Geum-Myeong is told that her mother was silent to be wronged at the places she couldn’t see.
She decides not to be weak this time. She tells the elder that she never talked back not because she was cowardly. She didn’t wish her boyfriend to feel embarrassed. She could consider for her boyfriend. But her boyfriend’s mother treats the kid as her belonging.
Geum-Myeong is firm to break up after the fight. She and Yeong-Beom has been in the love relationship for seven years. They have spent one year to end the love relationship completely. She tells her boyfriend that she still loves him. But love doesn’t mean that she needs to give up her pride. He feels sorry for him because he was wronged for her. He wants to cut ties with his parents for her. But she shakes her head. She knows there will be only complaint if they use sacrifice to get love. She doesn’t wish him to hate her. The couple uses a hug to end the love relationship.
Ae-Sun and Gwan-Sik are told that their daughter broke up. They worry about it. They sigh when they’re at the dinner table. Geum-Myeong returns home. The couple is very happy. Ae-Sun goes to the kitchen to prepare food. Gwan-Sik brings the heater for warming his daughter.
Geum-Myeong notes that her parents are very excited. She knows it was quiet in the house before she walked into the house. Ae-Sun feeds Geum-Myeong each day. The parents don’t know how to comfort the daughter. They only know to let their daughter be full so that she welcomes the new day.
Gwan-Sik takes his daughter to go to see the sunrise when it’s still light. Geum-Myeong cannot imagine that his father goes fishing everyday when it’s still light. It’s a torture to her that she wakes up early. Gwan-Sik’s motivation comes from his family. He can only make sure the life of the whole family as long as he wakes up early.
Geum-Myeong feels guilty for making her parents lose face. Gwan-Sik actually doesn’t wish her to marry to the family. He doesn’t care if his daughter gets married or not. Geum-Myeong isn’t happy. Her parents are happy. She wants to get married.
The sun is rising when they’re talking. Geum-Myeong thinks Gwan-Sik is the sun who takes care of the whole family. She feels warm when he’s with her. Ae-Sun didn’t send out the invitations because she knew her daughter will regret.
She grabs her daughter’s hand and she comforts her that she doesn’t have to forget the beautiful memories. She tells her to hide the memories in her hearts. Geum-Myeong looks at her mother. She encourages to write poems she loves. It’s Ae-Sun’s only hobby. She keeps writing poems everyday.
Geum-Myeong is changed after she returned home. She returns to Seoul again. She opens the window and she lets the light shines in the house. She cleans the fridge and she puts the side dishes her mother prepared for her into the fridge.
Ae-Sun and Gwan-Sik return home after they sent Geum-Myeong away. They see the supplement and the notebook for writing poems their daughter prepared. They’re touched to cry. Maybe that’s what parents do. They don’t need their children to do something big. Even if it’s a small, thoughtful thing. It’s enough to make them remember it all their lives.
The next day, Ae-Sun’s sister-in-law Gyeong-Ok visits Ae-Sun. She sells her products to her. Ae-Sun buys two mattresses because they’re family. She lets Gyeong-Ok give one of the mattresses to her mother-in-law. Gyeong-Ok feels shame. She only thought about her mother when she needed her help. But Ae-Sun often cares for the old lady.
Ae-Sun gives another mattress to her grandmother Chun-Ok on her birthday. Chun-Ok cannot recognize her family. She doesn’t remember Ae-Sun’s name. She only knows she’s her granddaughter. Ae-Sun remembers her grandmother’s kindness. She plans to take her to get dentures.
Chun-Ok remembers Ae-Sun lost her son as well. She knows the feelings. Ae-Sun and her husband never mentioned the dead son at home. She cries when she leans on Chun-Ok’s leg. Chun-Ok sleeps on the mattress Ae-Sun bought in the evening. She sighs that Ae-Sun is a good kid. She never gave a yellow fish to the girl. She knows she’s going to die. She thinks she had a happy life.

Ae-Sun and her husband come to pay their respects to Chun-Ok after Chun-Ok passed away. She worries that she’s going to separate from Gwan-Sik. They promise to welcome death together. The couple welcomes the son Eun-Myeong who just left the army. He took his girlfriend Hyeon-Suk home. Hyeon-Suk is pregnant. Ae-Sun is shocked. Gwan-Sik wants to give his son a lesson.

Chung-Seob leaves the army as well. He sees Geum-Myeong who’s sitting on the bus. He runs when he chases the bus. He joins the fans who are chasing their idol. He calls Geum-Myeong. It seems that she hears someone calling her. The spring that belongs to her is going to come.
