The Last of Us Season 2 is released after we had been waiting for it for two years. It’s the highest rated zombie TV show. It’s also the insurmountable milestone in game adaptation field. There will be many new zombies appearing in the season. It will take you to experience a different kind of apocalyptic world.

The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 1

Joel takes Ellie to run away from the fireflies lab in The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 1. He goes to his brother Tommy and he settles in the survivor’s camp. It turns into a small town after more refugees joined. The sturdy fences block the infected. The armed patrols go out to clean up hidden dangers everyday. The residents live comfortably there.

The previous little girl Ellie grows up. She can fight a man now. Her shooting skills are good after Tommy trained her. She thinks she’s strong enough and she doesn’t want to continue to guard the city gate. She wants to go out to clean up the infected. Tommy remembers his brother’s words. So he rejects Ellie. But she thinks he worries about it too much. She mentions she doesn’t fear to be bitten by the infected. He stops her. Because her immune system cannot be known by anyone. The little catches the weakness. She forces Tommy to compromise. She threatens to let everyone know it.

Ellie joins the patrol. Her best friend Dina stays with her. Head of Security confirms the route of the operation. He emphasizes that everyone must follow the leader’s instructions. The five ride horses and they leave the town. Ellie’s first patrol begins.

Ice-cold snow covers the entire road. Ellie holds up her binoculars and she looks around. The road has been traveled many times by the seniors. It’s safe. Ellie is easy. But the leader stops. A streak of bright red blood stretches ahead. It’s customary for them to go back to report it.

But Ellie insists on moving forward. Is that the job of a scouting team? The leader shakes his head. He has to ask the people to follow Ellie. They find the source of the blood soon. There were some infected fighting with the brown bear. But there was an infected fleeing to the abandoned mall.

The leader mentions they need to go back to report it. But Ellie ignores him. She thinks the infected cannot hurt her. Dina is a troublemaker as well. The leader doesn’t force them. He promises to give them five minutes to explore.

Ellie and Dina sneak into the mall from the window. They see an infected who just passed away. There’s a whistling sound coming from the passage. It means there’s an infected alive. They look around and they see a hideous monster. They use hand signals to develop tactics.

Ellie picks up the empty wine bottle from the floor. She sees the labels on the wall. It’s obvious that the stuff was left before the disaster. The monster’s hiss interrupts her thoughts. She throws the wine bottle. She makes a long leap when his attention is drawn.

She takes out her knife and she jabs. He falls to the ground and he doesn’t move anymore. The board in the aisle suddenly caves in. Ellie falls to the first floor. Fortunately, the floors aren’t high. But it’s not simple to climb up. Dina asks Ellie not to run away. She goes to look for the passage.

It’s an abandoned fabrication workshop. Ellie picks up a magazine. She tries to read it. But she senses there’s a stuff behind her. She doesn’t expect that there’s an infected. She raises her long gun and she’s careful to search. The infected is like a ghost. He can avoid her gaze at critical moments.

But we don’t know where he appears. Ellie yells and she rushes to the monster. She loses his trace again. She looks around. She doesn’t know the infected is behind her. She senses something. She turns around and she fires a shot. But he jumps at her from the side.

She’s pinned under him. There’s a sharp pain in her abdomen. She takes out her gun and she keeps pulling the trigger. She kills the infected. But her abdomen was bitten by him. Dina shows up. Ellie covers her wound immediately.

The two return to the town. They’re scolded by the Parliament. Fortunately, their actions didn’t cause serious consequences. They don’t get punishment because it’s New Year’s Eve. But the people are alert after the zombies appeared. The infected could tactics, according to Ellie’s description. It’s obvious that the monsters evolved into a certain amount of intelligence.

Ellie returns home. She doesn’t go to look for Joel. She walks into her room and she uses the dagger to cut through the bite marks. Although she won’t be infected because of her immune system, she cannot let others know the secret. Joel is like an old man who’s going to die. He’s fixing the appliance in his room. Dina breaks into the room. She’s close to Ellie. She can sense that her best friend hates Joel.

Joel and Ellie don’t like real father and daughter. Joel shakes his head. He doesn’t explain it. He thinks Ellie is in a period of youthful rebellion. Every family would experience it. Dina laughs. She speaks out the secret which nobody knows.

Joel has seen a psychiatrist these years. He knew there’s a deep divide between him and Ellie. He follows the psychiatrist’s advice. But the father and the daughter’s relationship is getting worse. They ran into each other on the street. She just greeted him. The psychiatrist sighs. She thinks she cannot give Joel any advice. Because he concealed something from her. She persuades him not to conceal it from her for solving his psychological problems.

He’s hit with pain. He tries to leave. It makes the psychiatrist confirm her guess. She persuades him again that everything can be resolved as long as he speaks it out. She asks him what he did to Ellie. He’s in pain and he tries to cry. But he chooses to keep the secret in the end.

You might know it if you watched The Last of Us Season 1. Joel took Ellie to the base of fireflies. Because those people could develop the vaccine which wards off Cordyceps, according to Ellie’s immune system. But Joel was told that Ellie needs to pay her life before the operating began. He killed everyone on the base. He was selfish to choose the little girl.

Ellie woke up. Joel told a lie to her that the experiment failed. There was a group of bandits breaking into fireflies. Joel tried his best to save Ellie. Ellie preferred to sacrifice herself and save the world. She suspected Joel.

Joel cannot tell the secret to anyone, otherwise Ellie’s immune system will be exposed. She will be killed. Joel walks into the garage where Ellie stays. He’s restrained. He asks her if she played the guitar. She replies to him that she played a lot. But he finds out that the strings are broken. He takes away the guitar for fixing it.

It’s New Year’s Eve. The survivors in the town have a party. They sing and dance. Ellie stands aside and she’s out of place. Dina invites her to go to dance. The more they dance, the more they get into it. They’re getting a little out of line. An old man stops them. But he’s pushed over by Joel.

Joel asks Ellie if she’s fine. But she throws a fit to him. She scolds him because she thinks it’s her business. He’s like a kid who made a mistake. He leaves the party. Ellie walks around on the snow. But she still hates Joel. She sees him playing guitar at the door. She leaves without greeting him.

Joel misses the days when he and Ellie traveled the world. Although they encountered myriad crises and they saw through the evil of the human nature, they were like the real father and daughter. They warm each other in the cold world.

The survivors in the town are celebrating the New Year. They don’t notice that there’s a Cordyceps squirming in the pipe. A group of armed men is looking at the town in distance. The leader is the member of fireflies Abby. Joel killed everyone in fireflies. He didn’t know there was a group of people avoiding the disaster because they went out.

Abby was one of them. They planned to chase Joel for taking revenge for their friends. But the mustache guy revealed he knows a large organization in Seattle. He thought he can use the force to find Joel and kill him. Abby got on knees to her parents’ grave. She swears to kill Joel slowly.

It’s obvious that the last scene warms up for the famous scene of the season. Will Joel avoid the fate of the golf club. Although the show respects for the original very much, I wish the writer to make modest adaptations. So there will be Season 3 next year. Joel is so poor. I think Ellie isn’t unappealing.
