Yi-Young falls for her brother-in-law Do-Won in Resident Playbook Episode 3. She keeps approaching him. But he knows nothing about it.
Episode 3
Yi-Young offers to go for a barbecue with her family suddenly. But Do-Won needs to go to hospital because of a business. He doesn’t go for the barbecue. She cancels the plan immediately. She had feelings for him after he helped her many times.
She takes his car to go to the hospital. She intends to mention her hobbies on the way. His life is boring. He writes a paper everyday except the surgeries. Maybe because of it. He praises her. He tells her that she’s the funniest girl he has seen. She learns that she’s such a girl in his eyes. She’s not happy.
Jae-Il and the two seniors Eun-Mi and Da-Hye have a talk at the coffee shop before they work. The three talk about Do-Won. Everyone knows the doctor is an extremely regular person. Jae-Il sighs that Do-Won is the male god of work and rest. Yi-Young listens to the conversation quietly. She knows her brother-in-law more.
It’s time to go to work. Yi-Young’s pain comes again. The four are summoned to have meeting. Yi-Young mistakes that she can make a request in the meeting. So the residents’ salaries and entitlements can be adjusted. But she finds out that it’s a criticism conference against her when Da-Hye reads the note.
What Da-Hye reads is the professor’s accusations against Yi-Young. Yi-Young yelled at him and she didn’t arrive at the operating room on time. Da-Hye catches the chance to point out the residents’ faults. Yi-Young feels wronged. Do-Won shows up with the breakfast. He finds out that the hospital is having a criticism conference. He asks Da-Hye not to have such meetings. He thinks they should give rookie doctors the positive support and encouragement.
Yi-Young follows the professor Joon-Mo to learn. The professor receives a patient who has uterine cancer. The patient is a young girl. Her mother accompanied her to the hospital. The professor tells the patient and the family that the girl’s uterus cannot be saved after the surgery. The girl keeps smiling after she heard the bad news. She’s strong and optimistic. But her mother keeps crying because she worries about her daughter. She’s comforted by her sick daughter.
The patient’s mother asks Yi-Young about the surgery. But Yi-Young cannot give the family the right answers because she’s just a rookie doctor. Do-Won comes to the office when it’s time to get off work. He wants to buy the four doctors a meal. But only Yi-Young agrees to it.
Do-Won and Yi-Young go to the cafeteria. He eats very fast because he needs to watch the surgery videos. He doesn’t have time to talk with her. He puts down his chopsticks. She complains it to him that she thought he can spend a romantic night with him. He’s still warm. He apologizes to her in hurry. It seems that he doesn’t sense her feelings.
The next day, Do-Won helps Yi-Young explain the surgery to the girl’s mother. The mother worries that her daughter cannot live like ordinary people after the surgery. She wishes the doctor to give her some accurate responses. It’s the hope that she can comfort her daughter. The daughter is still optimistic. She comforts her crying mother. She asks the doctor to only explain the condition to her.
The professor scolds Yi-Young for delaying the surgery. She feels wronged and she thinks it wasn’t her mistake. The patient’s mother Mrs. Yang shows up. She asks Yi-Young to go to the ward to check her daughter Seon-Mi. Seon-Mi is fine. Mrs. Yang helped Yi-Young when the doctor was scolded. Mrs. Yang mentions Yi-Young is the same age as her daughter. She’s envy of her that she can be scolded at the best age. She thinks it will be good if her daughter can grow up in such a way. She’s touched by her daughter’s strength. She decides not to cry in the future. She wants to be a good mother.
It’s Seon-Mi’s surgery day. She continues to comfort her mother. Her mother tries her best to control her tears like she promised. But she cries after she walked into the operating room and she touched the cold table. It’s not that she’s not scared. She’s not strong. All that optimism and bravery are acting for her mother.
Yi-Young witnesses the girl’s crying. She waits outside the operating room. She calls the professor and she makes an excuse to delay the surgery. Although she’s scolded by him again, she’s very happy. Fortunately, the surgery goes well. The girl’s uterus is saved. Yi-Young goes to the hallway. She tells Seon-Mi’s parents the good news. The mother cries because of happiness after knowing her daughter is fine. Yi-Young tears up in front of the family after she witnessed the scene.
The one who is moved by the patient is Nam-Kyung as well. Nam-Kyung cannot give the answers to the patient because she’s the first year resident like Yi-Young. So the patient doesn’t trust the doctor. Jae-Il makes the patient laugh each time. It seems that the patient recovers after he said something to her.
Nam-Kyung wants to learn from Jae-Il. He leaks that the secret is very simple. It’s telling the patients to eat more and work out more. He actually couldn’t answer the patients’ questions. But he’s good at attacking gently. It’s not a bad thing to eat and work out.
Nam-Kyung receives a patient Ok-Im. The old lady wants to leave the hospital for attending the wedding. But she cannot leave because of her illness. Nam-Kyung cannot convince the stubborn grandma. She tells her to eat and exercise. The words work. The grandma doesn’t pretend to be strong anymore. She promises to listen to the doctor.
Nam-Kyung notes that Ok-Im is walking hard in the hallway at night. She feels sorry and she thinks she made the grandma suffer. But the old lady is very kind. She doesn’t blame Nam-Kyung and she thanks her instead. She tells her not to take it to heart. Nam-Kyung looks at the old lady. She changes her words. She reminds her that she just needs to exercise until her knees can take it.
Ok-Im’s family and her friends come to see her. Nam-Kyung learns that Ok-Im is the lead role of the wedding. Ok-Im cancelled the wedding because she cannot leave the hospital. She asks the granddaughter to share the rice cakes with the doctors.
Sa-Bi sees different stories from the patients as well. The man comes to the hospital after she heard that his daughter passed out. But he finds out that his daughter Gyeong-Ju isn’t sick. She concealed it from him and she’s pregnant. He’s shocked and he scolds his daughter who just went to the college. He worries that her future will be affected. But the daughter’s pregnancy is up. She has to give birth to the baby. But her boyfriend is late after she gave birth. Gyeong-Ju’s father scolds the man Yeong-Chan.
Sa-Bi notes that Yeong-Chan was slapped on his face. He explains it to Gyeong-Ju’s father that he wanted to take his mother there but she rejected it. He looks at the baby who was just born. He worries about his girlfriend. Gyeong-Ju’s father isn’t mad after he found out that the guy is good. He smiles after he looked at the new life.
Sa-Bi congratulates Gyeong-Ju’s father. She thinks Yeong-Chan is good at least. But the man is sad. He thinks it’s a good thing that there was a life coming. But he thinks the baby is a little angel who will delay his daughter’s life.
Sa-Bi picks up the stuff the man threw away from the trash can. She returns it to Gyeong-Ju. It’s the present and the note inside the bag. He wishes his daughter to visit him if she needs his help. Gyeong-Ju reads her father’s true heart. She keeps tearing up. Sa-Bi smiles. She believes that the girl will get double love from her father and her boyfriend.
It’s time to take group photo. Do-Won stands next to Yi-Young. He doesn’t expect that she holds his hand when the shutter falls.
The hospital drama “Resident Playbook” comes back after the success of “Hospital Playlist” Season 1 and Season 2. The lead roles aren’t outstanding doctors anymore. They’re some rookie residents. But the story is still around the love of the doctor and how they treat the patients.
The patients are emotional when they face the death threat. The doctors are close to the patients when they take care of them. So they can sense their emotions. It makes them reflect themselves. Am I good enough? They will adjust their actions when they face the patients.
Yi-Young has a crush on Do-Won after he helped her many times in episode 1 and episode 2. She wants to tell her feelings to him. But he’s always busy. She holds his hand in the end. He looks surprised. Does Do-Won love Yi-Young?
I think he likes her. But he only treats her as his sister because of their relationship. He arranged her to the hospital after knowing she needs money. He helped her because she knows her seniors would bully her. But he didn’t do it for making her fall for him. He thinks he’s just a boring man. He doesn’t expect there would be a girl liking him. He knows it after she gave him a strong signal. What will he do? I don’t know. It depends on the writer’s plan.
Nam-Kyung was Yi-Young’s classmate. She joined the hospital before Yi-Young. She was happy when Yi-Young made mistake. But she’s just a little role. She doesn’t have any background. Yi-Young has a brother-in-law to support her in the hospital. Nam-Kyung is nobody. She doesn’t have guts to fight it back when she faces injustice.
She’s not very knowledgeable and she’s not smart. She doesn’t know to answer the patients’ questions. Fortunately, she’s a good learner. She sees Jae-Il telling the patient to eat and exercise. He’s welcomed. She does it, according to his formula. But she doesn’t consider the patient’s knees.
Sa-Bi deserves to be a top students. She’s very smart when she’s interaction with the patient Gyeong-Ju and her father. Gyeong-Ju’s father is angry after knowing the man Yeong-Chan made his daughter pregnant. Sa-Bi knows she shouldn’t let the two men have a fight. Because it will bring the trouble to Gyeong-Ju. She puts herself in the patient’s shoes. She notes that Gyeong-Ju’s boyfriend was slapped. She informs Gyeong-Ju’s father about it. It makes the man forgive his son-in-law.
Sa-Bi is meticulous to pick up the bag from the trash can. It makes Gyeong-Ju know her father’s kindness. Sa-Bi plays a role of bridge between the patient and her family. Sa-Bi isn’t a cold role anymore. She knows how to be a warm doctor now.
The seniors are still rude to the residents in episode 3. But the worst senior Eun-Won disappears in the episode. She asked Yi-Young to prepare the operating room in episode 2. But she pretended nothing happened after Yi-Young did it. It made the poor doctor be scolded by the anesthesiologist. Eun-Won liked to assign homework for the residents. The residents were tired after they worked until midnight. But they needed to report what they did to the senior. Eun-Won’s behavior almost made Yi-Young and Nam-Kyung resign. They came to the hospital to learn. They didn’t came to be slaves.
I’m touched after I watched Seon-Mi’s part. Seon-Mi is a girl who has uterine cancer. She has the deadly disease at young age. Just like her mother says. She envies of Yi-Young. Yi-Young can grow up in the hospital. But her daughter cannot.
Seon-Mi will lose her uterus if the surgery doesn’t go well. She’s a girl in the prime of life. The disease deprives her of her rights as a woman. The girl is sunny. She knows her mother will worry about her. So she smiles first. It saves her mother from the abyss of pain. Fortunately, Resident Playbook gives the girl a good ending. Her uterine is saved after the professor operated on her.
I cannot imagine what will happen to the girl if she loses her uterine. The family will be painful. Her in-laws will give her a hard time if she gets married. Because she cannot give birth. Her mother is also a good person. She helps Yi-Young when Yi-Young is scolded. It’s not her business. She can choose to ignore it. But she helps the doctor. It makes Yi-Young help Seon-Mi during the surgery.
Resident Playbook prepares some stories for the audience. The stories are very touching. The roles behind the stories are bitter. But they show us the positive. We see a father’s love for his daughter. Gyeong-Ju’s father actually doesn’t wish his daughter to give a birth at the age. Because she’s still in the college. He knows she needs to drop out of the college if she lets the child be born. She won’t find a good job because of what she does. But he supports her after he found out that she and her boyfriend love each other. He’s ready to back her up no matter what happens.
We see the Yeong-Chan’s bravery in the episode. He and Gyeong-Ju are in love. He made her be pregnant by mistake. The baby is the fruit of their love. But it’s also a burden to them. His girlfriend will be looked down by her classmates because she’s pregnant out of wedlock. He doesn’t choose to flee because she’s the girl he loves. He asks his mother to come to the hospital with him for taking responsibility. But he gets rejected and he gets slapped. He doesn’t back off because of his family. He comes to the hospital on his own. I want to thank him for his bravery. I cannot imagine what will happen to Gyeong-Ju if he chooses to back off. I think she has to choose to give up the baby. The bravery deserves praise. But the couple needs to think about the reality. It’s a family of three. They need food and clothes. It seems that Gyeong-Ju’s father can support them. But the man isn’t rich as well.
