The rookie doctor Yi-Young is busy in the delivery room. The pregnant woman is going to give birth. The doctor delivers the baby in the hallway in Resident Playbook Episode 1.
Episode 1
Yi-Young gets a call from the bank in the morning. She’s told that she owes the bank fifty million won. She cannot pay her debts. The bank claims that Yi-Young can choose to extend the loan term. But she needs to show her certificate of employment. Fortunately, Yi-Young is unemployed. Although she claimed that the career and her interests don’t match, she has to go against her heart for paying the bill.
The next day, Yi-Young comes to the hospital with her sister Ju-Young. She was an intern and her family was rich. But her father went bankrupt last year. She brought trouble in the hospital. Ju-Young persuades Yi-Young to endure it even if she loses her face in front of her old colleagues.
Yi-Young walks into the resident office. Although she interned, she’s still a rookie. She leaves the office and walks to the elevator. She was arranged to be an assistant of a professor. The colleague Nam-Kyung reveals the professor likes to scold people.
Yi-Young comes to the operating room. She puts on the suit. But she finds out that she cannot see anything. The professor Jung-Min shows up. She points out the blurred vision of Yi-Young. Yi-Young wonders how the professor knew it. The professor lets someone take off the diaphragm tag for Yi-Young. Yi-Young regains her sight immediately. She’s embarrassed.
Jung-Min completes a laparotomy. Yi-Young finds out that there’s blood on the doctor’s gloves except her. She goes to the cafeteria to get food. The senior Do-Won shows up. He helps her serve food. She asks him when she can be off duty. She’s told that she cannot get off work on time. She’s not happy.
Yi-Young isn’t luck again. She becomes Jung-Min’s assistant. She takes the discarded stitch. She doesn’t know where she should put it. She’s scolded by Jung-Min. Do-Won hints at Yi-Young. But she doesn’t understand the hint. She grabs the stitch instead. She’s kicked out of the operating room. She throws the stitch on the floor. But the hand sanitizer is against her. It drops on her.
The other three residents are miserable when Yi-Young is upset. Nam-Kyung hears the seniors talking about Yi-Young’s performance. She’s very happy. The two were classmates. So Nam-Kyung treats Yi-Young as her rival. But she’s flustered when she takes care of the pregnant woman. Sa-Bi was the first place in the medical school. Although she has excellent grades, she has no empathy for her patient. The patient cries in front of her because she worries about the surgery. Sa-Bi is like a cold robot. She mechanically reads the surgical consent form for the patient.
There’s a patient refusing to sign the paper. She asks Sa-Bi why she got a cancer since she was kind. Sa-Bi doesn’t comfort the patient. She tells her that kindness isn’t related to cancer. The resident Jae-Il was an idol. The nurse hands over the report to him. He mistakes her for his fan. He signs on the report.
Jae-Il is very hardworking in the office. The patient has a nosebleed. But he thinks it’s a a skull base fracture. It brings trouble to his seniors. It’s time to be off duty. Yi-Young eats a dry bread. She’s listless to get in the elevator. Do-Won tries to comfort her. But she asks him not to mention their relationship in the hospital.
Do-Won is the brother of Yi-Young’s brother-in-law. He forgets Yi-Young’s words and he reveals her embarrassing story at the table. She loses her face in front of her family. She’s told that she wasn’t qualified to join the hospital. Do-Won used his power and he hired her. He’s a warm man. He’s tolerated her little ways. He gets a call from someone. He needs to return to the hospital to take care of the pregnant woman.
The next day, Do-Won yawns after he worked all night. He teaches Yi-Young. But she cannot get it together. The nurse calls the doctor outside. Yi-Young pretends not to hear it. She has to come to take care of the pregnant woman after she was caught.
It’s the pregnant woman Young-Seon’s second child. But she asks Yi-Young to keep the secret. Yi-Young needs to tell a lie to Young-Seon’s boyfriend that it’s Young-Seon’s first child. She has to tell a lie for the pregnant woman. The guy gives cake to her for thanking her.
Jae-Il takes a photo of the cake. Yi-Young and her colleagues eat the cake. They’re busy again. Yi-Young checks Young-Seon. She finds out that her uterus is fully open. It’s an emergency. Yi-Young is flustered to report it to Jung-Min.
Jung-Min arranges a ward for the pregnant woman. But she finds out that the pregnant woman’s condition is great after she checked it. She glares at Yi-Young. She scolds Do-Won who’s in charge of leading Yi-Young. Yi-Young sighs. She thinks she will suffer more in the future.
She calls Do-Won. She reports to him that it’s a real emergency. He lets her carry the pregnant woman to the delivery room. He runs to the delivery room. He plans to deliver the baby. But the pregnant woman gives birth in advance.
Yi-Young sees the head of the baby when she’s in the hallway. She wears the gloves and she delivers the baby. The baby is born. Yi-Young carries the little life. She cries. Do-Won arrives. He cuts the umbilical cord. It was Yi-Young’s fist time to deliver a baby.
Jung-Min scolds Yi-Young again. She thinks she wouldn’t let the pregnant woman give birth in the hallway if she did a good job. Yi-Young reflects and she realizes her mistake. Jung-Min forgives Yi-Young. She just lets her pray for the mother and the child.

The next day, Ju-Young finds out that Yi-Young ran to work for the first time. She believes that her sister will be an outstanding doctor like Do-Won.
