This is the recap for K-Drama Melancholia: Episode 3. Jung-A announces that the Asung High School math competition begins. But Yoon-Su stops Jung-A because the time isn’t up. She and Myung-Jin give the answer sheets to the students.
Melancholia: Episode 3 Recap
Note: From here on out there are specific plot spoilers for K-Drama Melancholia: Episode 3.
Jung-A tells Yoon-Su to go to close the door when the time is up. Yoon-Su walks to the door, and tries to close it. But Seung-Yoo grabs the door and opens it. He tells her that he found the method to answer her question. She smiles and drags him into the classroom. She tells everyone that Seung-Yoo will participate the math competition.
Hye-Mi meets with her friends in Hee-Seung’s coffee shop. She tells her friends that her daughter will win because she dreamed to ride an elephant. Hee-Seung brings the foods to the women. She tries to tell a good news to them. But Min-Sik shows up and tells his wife that Seung-Yoo fled. It makes the women laugh.
Jung-A walks around Ye-Rin when she’s answering the questions. She remembers she got Myung-Jin to give the answers to Ye-Rin. Seung-Yoo walks into the classroom. He looks at the blackboard. He remembers he and Yoon-Su answered the math question on the blackboard. He writes something on the blackboard.
Ye-Rin shows up. She asks Seung-Yoo if he will participate the Math Olympic Competition. He tells her that he doesn’t intend to defeat her. He asks her if he likes math. She denies. He tells her that he loves math. He leaves the classroom.
Myung-Jin summons Ye-Rin to his office. He brings a bad news to her even if he told her that she did a great job. Yoon-Su smiles when she looks at the answer Seung-Yoo left in the classroom. She sees him and lets him in. She grabs his hands and tells him that he did a great job.
Ye-Rin is told that she and Seung-Yoo got full marks. She wonders who will get chosen. Yoon-Su tells Seung-Yoo that she’s happy to see him. But he tells her that his returning wasn’t because of her. She smiles and wants to take a look at the answer he wrote. But he wipes off the answer. Because he thinks it’s not perfect.
Yoon-Su thinks Seung-Yoo didn’t inform Min-Sik about his leaving. She takes out her phone and asks him for inputting his father’s number. Because she wants to call Min-Sik and explain it to him in person. But he refuses to give the number to her. Because he wants to tell it to Min-Sik himself.
Yoon-Su is told that Seung-Yoo will learn math with her. Seung-Yoo tries to tell Yoon-Su that he misunderstood her. But she gets a message from Myung-Jin who tells her that Jung-A is summoning her. Yoon-Su goes to see Jung-A. She argues with Myung-Jin about who should participate the Math Olympic Competition. She offers to let Ye-Rin and Seung-Yoo do another to decide the final candidate.

Jung-A gets the two teacher’s points. She tells them to leave when Min-Joon calls her. But Yoon-Su still stays in the office. She tells Jung-A that Seung-Yoo is a math genius who can bring the reputation to her. Jung-A thinks about what Yoon-Su said. She doesn’t pick up Min-Joon’s phone in the end.
Min-Sik drives to the school after he got a call from Sung-Han. Sung-Han welcomes Min-Sik and takes him to see Jung-A. Jung-A tells Min-Sik that his son wants to participate the Math Olympic Competition. Min-Joon shows up. He’s told the the two kids got full marks. Jung-A asks Min-Joon to contact the organizer.
Min-Joon calls the organizer. He tells Jung-A and Min-Sik that they have a chance because there was a school dropping it. But he still doubts if they actually need to do that. Jung-A tells him that they have to another test if he doesn’t do it. He has to agree to her plan.
Seung-Yoo runs into Min-Sik and explains to him that he fled because he wanted to answer the question for Yoon-Su. Min-Sik turns around and stares at his son. He tells him to do it if he actually likes math. Min-Joon takes over the business card from Jung-A. He learns that the AI Institution will help Ye-Rin to achieve her goal.
Min-Joon explains to Jung-A that he couldn’t stand it after Min-Sik robbed their hard work. He tells her that he cannot help Asung High School be a specialized school if she breaks her promise. She points out that his son still needs her help if he wants to get into Asung High School. She tells her dream to him, and thinks she needs a genius like Seung-Yoo.
Jung-A summons Yoon-Su to her office. She tells her that Seung-Yoo and Ye-Rin will participate the Math Olympic Competition together. She asks her to give the report about Seung-Yoo to her since she believes he will become a great mathematician. Jin-Taek reports to Yeon-Woo about the two student’s passing. She’s interested in Ye-Rin.
Yoon-Su walks in the classroom. She brings the good news to Ye-Rin and Seung-Yoo. But they’re not happy at all. She tells them that they need to give a speech. Hye-Mi is happy when she’s running on the treadmill. She gets a call from Min-Joon who brings the bad news to her. She falls from the treadmill.
Hye-Mi visits Hee-Seung who just gets the good news. She thinks she used some dirty methods. Hee-Seung reminds Hye-Mi that her daughter always got defeated by her son. She tells her to walk aside. The customers at the coffee shop take photos of Hye-Mi when she’s embarrassed.
Yoon-Su hands over the book to Seung-Yoo, and tells him to prepare the topic for the speech. Ye-Rin gets a message from Min-Joon. So she leaves the classroom. Ye-Rin locks herself in her room after she returned home. Hye-Mi tries to get her daughter to open the door. But she fails. She blames Min-Joon for bringing the trouble.
