Jung-Jae goes to the rooftop in Family by Choice: Episode 9. He finds out that the three kids are having a fight. He learns that his sons San-Ha and Hae-Joon are going to leave home. He accepts it. But the angry Joo-Won doesn’t want to let it go.
Jung-Jae and Hae-Joon leave the roof. Hae-Joon worries about Joo-Won. Jung-Jae comforts Hae-Joon that San-Ha will convince Joo-Won. San-Ha claims that he did nothing wrong to care for his mother and his sister. Joo-Won gets his point. She returns to her room and she closes the door. Hae-Joon knocks at the door when he tells her to eat something.
San-Ha goes to the bar with Dae-Wook. Dae-Wook disagrees to let San-Ha go. He knows his son will suffer. But San-Ha cannot ignore his mother after his mother tried to take her life. The family is going to have breakfast together in the morning.
Joo-Won walks out of her room with her bag. She ignores the people and she leaves home. Hae-Joon tries to go to chase Joo-Won. Jung-Jae stops Hae-Joon. He learns that Dae-Wook decided to let his son leave. Hae-Joon follows San-Ha on the street. He beats him because he thinks it was San-Ha’s mistake.
Madam visits Jung-Jae with the meat. She persuades him to forget the two sons. He’s sad. Jae-Eun brings the good news to Joo-Won that her brothers are going to leave. She thinks Joo-Won will be closer to her brothers once they come back. But Joo-Won doesn’t think so because she and her brothers aren’t real family. She’s cold to leave the classroom.
Hui-Ju finds San-Ha in the locker room. She’s very happy after she knew he’s going to go to Seoul National School. But he dislikes her because she betrayed Hae-Joon. San-Ha runs into Hae-Joon in the hallway. Hae-Joon persuades San-Ha to go to give the food box to Joo-Won. He reveals Joo-Won went to Seoul to see San-Ha alone. San-Ha is furious to blame Hae-Joon.
San-Ha goes to Joo-Won’s classroom. But he’s told that Joo-Won just left. He gives the food box to Park Dal. He tells her to give it to Hae-Joon. He goes to chase Joo-Won. Park Dal hesitates if she needs to give the food box to Hae-Joon in the soccer field. A football flies to her. Hae-Joon protects her with his body. He recognizes the food box. He tries to take it away. But she stops him and she persuades him to eat it.
He finds a place to enjoy the food. He persuades her to go to confess her feelings to San-Ha. He hints at her that San-Ha didn’t choose her because the guy treats her as his sister. She tears up after he left. She complains that he shouldn’t smile at her.
San-Ha finds Joo-Won in the cake store. He eats the cake. But she doesn’t feel better. She begs him not to leave. But he rejects it. It makes her sad. Joo-Won returns home. Hae-Joon gives his watch to her. He wakes up in the evening. He finds out that Jung-Jae is cooking in the kitchen. The father and the son have a talk. Hae-Joon mentions Jung-Jae taught him to play basketball. He promises to come back. Jung-Jae grabs Hae-Joon’s hands. He persuades him not to try hard.
San-Ha packs his stuff in his room. He looks around and he remembers the past. He tears up. San-Ha and Hae-Joon are going to leave. San-Ha calls Joo-Won. But she doesn’t pick up his phone. Dae-Wook gives some cash to Hae-Joon. He thinks he will need it.
Hae-Joon and San-Ha give Jung-Jae a hug. They get in the car. Joo-Won shows up. She tears up when she sees her two brothers off. She tells her father that she wants to eat. She eats at home. She tells her father that she doesn’t want to say goodbye to the two guys.
Jung-Jae takes the drunk Dae-Wook back to his restaurant. The two fathers begin to miss their sons. It’s Joo-Won’s birthday. Jung-Jae and Dae-Wook spend the birthday with Joo-Won. Hae-Joon and San-Ha call Joo-Won for her birthday. But they don’t come back. Joo-Won is lost.
Joo-Won is going to leave her cake store. Jung-Jae calls her for her birthday. He asks her to come home. She’s very busy. But she promises to come home on Monday. Joo-Won calls Park Dal. Park Dal reports to Joo-Won that there was a weird guy showing up at her store.
Joo-Won is on the way to her store after she picked up the cherries. She doesn’t know someone sneaked into her store. San-Ha comes back with his suitcase. Joo-Won gets off her car with the cherries. She tries to open the door of her store. But she finds out that the door is opened.
She walks into the store and she sees the guy. She throws the cherries to the floor for preventing him from fleeing. But he slaps her. She catches him and she takes him to the police station. Jung-Jae arrives at the police station. He’s furious to force the guy to show his face after knowing the guy slapped his daughter. But he finds out that the guy is his lovely son Hae-Joon.
Hae-Joon cries to hug Jung-Jae and Dae-Wook. Dae-Wook tells the cop that Joo-Won is like his daughter and Hae-Joon is like his son. The cop thinks the two are family. But Joo-Won is cold to deny it. San-Ha arrives at Joo-Won’s cake store. He walks into the store and he sees the cherries on the floor. He finds the glass Hae-Joon broke then.
Joo-Won intends to sue Hae-Joon. But Hae-Joon shows Jung-Jae the injury Joo-Won made. Jung-Jae worries about Hae-Joon. Joo-Won is furious to blame her father. San-Ha arrives at the police station. He cares for Joo-Won. Joo-Won tells the cop that San-Ha is just a stranger to her.
The people leave the police station. Joo-Won blames Hae-Joon for not calling her. She goes to clean her store when everyone returns home. Joo-Won runs into Park Dal in front of the store. Park Dal helps Joo-Won pick up the cherries.
Joo-Won thinks Park Dal is happy for Hae-Joon’s comeback. But Park Dal claims that she doesn’t remember the guy’s face. She persuades Joo-Won to return home because she knows her two brothers are waiting for her. Hae-Joon and San-Ha return to their rooms. They find out that the rooms are the same.
Joo-Won returns home in the end. The family eats together. San-Ha gives the food to Joo-Won. She thanks him. Hae-Joon is happy after he enjoyed Jung-Jae’s food. Dae-Wook goes the take beer. The family drinks together. Joo-Won notes San-Ha’s scars.

She returns to her room. She gets a call from Park Dal. Park Dal asks Joo-Won to take the two guys to the store. Joo-Won smiles after she realized that Park Dal still misses Hae-Joon. She goes to the living room. She finds out that the people are eating cherries. She joins them. San-Ha announces that he and Hae-Joon won’t leave. But Joo-Won goes against it.
