This is the recap for Family by Choice: Episode 2. We go to the summer of 2004. Joo-Won is hungry after she played with Hae-Joon. San-Ha gives Joo-Won the snack. But she doesn’t eat it because she wants to share the limited summer edition snack with her friend.
Joo-Won goes to the school. She shares the snack with her friend. But another girl gets angry because she was the one who gave the snack to San-Ha. She asks Joo-Won to spit out the snack. The girls ask Joo-Won to give their love letters to Hae-Joon and San-Ha then.
Hae-Joon and Joo-Won are on the bus. Hae-Joon persuades his sister to be a crazy idiot when she’s bullied. The two girls ask Joo-Won to give their presents to Hae-Joon and San-Ha. But Joo-Won asks them to sign the contract. One of the girls is angry to spit on Joo-Won. Joo-Won acts a crazy idiot. She takes the girl to run.
Hae-Joon is playing basketball in the gym. The girl Park Dal informs him that his sister is in trouble. Joo-Won takes the bully to the pond. But she falls into the pond. San-Ha is in the classroom. The girl makes him notice that his sister fell into the pond. He leaves the classroom.
Joo-Won leaves the pond. She’s close to the two girls. She acts a weak person. Hae-Joon shows up. He scolds the two girls. They claim that they did nothing. Joo-Won sees Park Dal. She learns that Park Dal was the one who informed her brother.
Hae-Joon takes off his skirt. He wipes Joo-Won with his skirt. Park Dal is shy to turn around. Because she worries that she will see Hae-Joon’s body. San-Ha shows up. He puts his clothes on Joo-Won. He notes the injury on her hand. He glares at the two girls. The girls run away.
San-Ha and Hae-Joon are waiting for Joo-Won. San-Ha scolds Hae-Joon because he thinks their sister wouldn’t fall into the water if Hae-Joon didn’t teach Joo-Won the trick. But Joo-Won is very happy because she won. The three kids are on the way home. But it’s raining after they got off the bus.
San-Ha plans to go home to get umbrellas. But Joo-Won and Hae-Joon want to run home. San-Ha has to join them to run. They pass by the store. They run into the neighbors. One of the neighbors mentions Hae-Joon’s mother. She pities him. Joo-Won takes Hae-Joon’s side.
The three kids return home. They have a dinner together with their family. Joo-Won decides to give up the adoption plan since she has resolved the love letter case. Dae-Wook gets a call from someone. He leaves. San-Ha reveals it was his grandma.
Joo-Won gives her crab to San-Ha. Because she worries about him. She asks him to eat the crab. But he goes outside and he turns off his phone. Joo-Won blames San-Ha’s mother. She thinks her brother has no reason to hear the good news about the madam. Dae-Wook comes back. He finds out that his son is missing when his mother-in-law wishes to talk with her grandson.
Jung-Jae and Dae-Wook clean the table together after the dinner. Jung-Jae asks Dae-Wook not to be nice to his ex-mother-in-law. He acts like his wife. Joo-Won brings the meat balls to San-Ha. She tells him that she will check if he eats it.
She smells his pillow. She finds out that he changed his shampoo. She and Hae-Joon go to take the shampoos. They ask San-Ha to explain why he changed his shampoo. San-Ha points out that he bought the shampoos because the two told him to do that. He drives them out of his room. He reveals he feels better. Joo-Won and Hae-Joon are happy to leave. But Hae-Joon minds that Joo-Won called San-Ha older brother. So Joo-Won keeps calling Hae-Joon older brother. San-Ha eats the meat ball.
San-Ha visits the teacher. He asks for changing the school to the one nearby his house. The teacher gives San-Ha a paper. He asks him to talk about it with his father first. San-Ha walks out of the teacher’s office. The girl is waiting for him. She asks him for a talk.
Joo-Won walks Park Dal on the campus. Joo-Won learns that the two girl thought she was crazy. She sees San-Ha. She takes Park Dal to follow San-Ha. Because she wants to introduce her best friend to her brother. Joo-Won tries to follow San-Ha to the music room. But Park Dal stops Joo-Won. Because she knows San-Ha and the girl Hui-Ju is dating. Joo-Won gets angry. But she doesn’t know her brother rejecting the girl in the music room.
She glares at San-Ha when she’s outside his classroom. He waves at her. But she ignores him. He follows her to the seafood market. She complains it to him that he didn’t treat her as his family because he didn’t tell her that he has a girlfriend. He points out that they’re nor family because their last names are different. It makes her cry.
A strange uncle takes photos of Hae-Joon when Hae-Joon is playing basketball in the guy. Hae-Joon chases the uncle out of the gym. He catches him. The strange uncle flees after he gave up his camera. The classmate joins Hae-Joon. He finds out that the man shot Hae-Joon. Hae-Joon remembers the man had a Seoul accent. The classmate thinks the guy was sent by Hae-Joon’s mother. But Hae-Joon thinks the man was a spy from another school.
Jung-Jae is going to close his store. But Hae-Joon’s aunt visits him. The aunt is pregnant. She brings the presents to Jung-Jae for making up. Madam shows up. She gives Hae-Joon’s aunt a hard time. Hae-Joon’s aunt has to leave. Madam blames the aunt Yi-Hyun for giving up the kid. But Jung-Jae is happy to tell Madam that he volunteered to take away the kid.
Hae-Joon runs into Yi-Hyun. He’s very happy. He tries to pay the cab fee for her. But she suggests him not to do that. Because the money belongs to Jung-Jae. Hae-Joon passes by Jung-Jae’s restaurant. He remembers the customer thought Jung-Jae will send Hae-Joon back if Hae-Joon doesn’t work hard. But Jung-Jae took Hae-Joon’s side. He told the kid that he can stay at the home even if he doesn’t work.
Hae-Joon is at home. He takes a look at Jung-Jae when Jung-Jae is washing vegetables. He remembers his aunt told him not to be the burden. He tears up when Dae-Wook mentions Jung-Jae bought back the best meat. But Joo-Won doesn’t have any appetite because she just had a fight with San-Ha. Jung-Jae thinks it was his daughter’s mistake. Joo-Won is furious to return to her room.
San-Ha follows Joo-Won to her room. He reveals the girl was Hae-Joon’s ex-girlfriend. He takes her back. But she glares at Hae-Joon.
San-Ha, Joo-Won and Hae-Joon go to the school. Joo-Won ignores Hae-Joon before she leaves. It makes Hae-Joon realize that he made a mistake. San-Ha tells Hae-Joon that Joo-Won has known he had a girlfriend Hui-Ju. Hae-Joon gets angry because he did it for San-Ha. But San-Ha betrayed him.
Hui-Ju shows up behind Hae-Joon. She asks him to get together with her. But he rejects it because he hurt Joo-Won’s feelings for her. Joo-Won and Park Dal are in the classroom. Joo-Won tells her best friend that Hui-Ju’s ex-boyfriend is Hae-Joon. They see Hui-Ju. Hui-Ju smiles at Joo-Won.
Park Dal looks for Hae-Joon on the campus. He shows up behind her. She’s startled and she falls for him. Joo-Won and Hui-Ju are in the classroom. Joo-Won gets angry after knowing Hui-Ju dumped Hae-Joon. She scolds her because she treats Hae-Joon as her family.
Hui-Ju trips when she follows Joo-Won. She makes the students believe that Joo-Won pushed her. Hae-Joon has to persuade Joo-Won to apologize. But San-Ha shows up. He guards Joo-Won. He threatens Hui-Ju with the hearing. Joo-Won is happy to leave with her brothers.
Joo-Won, Hae-Joon and San-Ha are on the rooftop of their house. Hae-Joon brings cake to Joo-Won as an apology. She forgives him. The next day. Joo-Won brings the snacks to Park Dal. Because Park Dal helped her when she was wronged.
Park Dal asks Joo-Won to pay her back. She wishes Joo-Won to take her to the basketball game of Hae-Joon. Joo-Won is surprised that her best friend has feelings for her brother. She thinks her brother looks ordinary. But Park Dal is shy.
Hae-Joon arrives at the school. The school guard reveals he has returned the camera to the owner. He gives the man’s business card to Hae-Joon. Hae-Joon mistakes that the man was sent by his mother. He mistakes a lady for his mother. He goes to chase her. He finds out that he was wrong.
Hae-Joon runs into Park Dal. He worries that she heard his secret. He takes her to a nice restaurant. He asks her to keep the secret from Joo-Won. San-Ha and Joo-Won are eating noodles at her family restaurant. Joo-Won learns that her father is cooking cartilage for Hae-Joon. She’s jealous of Hae-Joon.

Hae-Joon’s father Dong-Gu drives an expensive car to the school. Hui-Ju tries to hand over the towel to Hae-Joon in the gym. But he ignores her. Joo-Won watches it. She wants to help Park Dal. Dong-Gu finds Hae-Joon according to the photo. He tells him that he’s his father.
