Xia Xiaoju runs with her classmate in the playground in A River Runs Through It: Episode 3. The classmate thinks Xia Xiaoju ran too fast. Xia Xiaoju stares at Lu Shiyi. The classmate learns that Xia Xiaoju is in anger. She persuades her that she’s a profiteer because her grades have improved.
Lu Shiyi joins Teacher Guo. He mentions the school was defeated by the 14th grade school. But Teacher Guo worries that he will be scolded by Teacher Zhang. Lu Shiyi claims that they will use the extracurricular time to train. But Teacher Guo rejects it because he knows the men’s and women’s relay race is their shortcoming.
He’s surprised to see Xia Xiaoju’s name on the list. He finds out that she got good grades. But Lu Shiyi goes against it because he and the girl have resentment. Teacher Guo asks Lu Shiyi to give up the personal resentment for the collective honors. Lu Shiyi rejects it. He runs away.
The boy walks into the classroom. He reports to Lu Shiyi that he failed to find the girl. He persuades him to give up. But Lu Shiyi rejects it because he still remembers the shame. He sees Xia Xiaoju. He wonders if he has to choose the girl.
He grabs Xia Xiaoju’s earphones. He runs away. He provokes her that he will return the earphones to her if she can catch him. She chases him and she catches him in the playground. She takes back her earphones. She’s angry to ask him what he wanted to do.
He laughs to tell her that he just wanted to test how fast she could run. She throws a fit to him. She walks away. The boy joins Lu Shiyi. He offers to choose Xia Xiaoju. Lu Shiyi and the boy tail Xia Xiaoju. Lu Shiyi asks Xia Xiaoju to take part in the sports competition. But she rejects it.
He blocks her way and he reminds her that he invited her because he gave her face. She thanks him and he walks away. The boy thinks Lu Shiyi’s attitude wasn’t good. Lu Shiyi yells at the boy. He asks him what kind of attitude he should have.
The next day. Lu Shiyi brings the breakfast to Xia Xiaoju in the classroom. She eats the bun and she thinks it’s delicious. She reveals she worries that Teacher Zhang won’t let her take part in the sports competition. He persuades her that she can be added scores in the exam if her sport is good.
But she wants to think about it. He mentions she got bad grades. He persuades her to look for some advantages from sports. She’s furious to ask him to go to look for others. He tries to stop her from leaving. But he makes her walkman drop to the floor.
He promises to buy her a new one if she wins the competition. But she claims that she won’t take part in the competition. They have a fight. Their friends try to stop them. But they get scolded. Xia Xiaoju asks Lu Shiyi to break her leg so that she doesn’t need to take part in the game. He leaves the classroom.
Lu Shiyi plans video game at home. His father Lu Xiude persuades Lu Shiyi to focus on the study. He turns off the TV. Lu Shiyi mentions his father told him that he can go home to farm if he cannot get into the university. Lu Xiude complains it to his wife Xiao Hong that her son didn’t study well.
Lu Shiyi returns to his room. Xia Xiaoju arrives at his house. She yells at him. He opens the window and he tells her not to yell if she doesn’t have a business. The two ask each other to come to him or her’s side. Cheng Lang walks out of his house. He thinks the two are acting “Journey to the West”.
Xia Xiaoju reveals Lu Shiyi broke her walkman. Lu Shiyi doesn’t want to talk with Xia Xiaoju. He closes the window. He regrets for having a fight with the girl because he wants to ask her a favor. Cheng Lang volunteers to check Xia Xiaoju’s walkman. She rejects it and she tries to walk away.
He stops her when he thinks she’s in anger because of the previous case. He apologizes to her. She’s surprised. She thinks he doesn’t need to apologize to her because he helped her improve her grades. He catches the chance to ask her to let him check her walkman. He checks her walkman and he tells her that he can fix it.
Lu Shiyi plays game in the class. The teacher takes away Lu Shiyi’s game console. Xia Xiaoju is very happy. Cheng Lang and Xia Xiaoju are in the playground. He gives her the walkman he fixed. He asks her to take part in the sports competition. But she worries that it will delay her study.
He agrees to what she said. She’s surprised because she thought he came to persuade her. He claims that study is more important. Teacher Guo gathers the students. He scolds them because they’re in poor physical condition. Lu Shiyi joins Cheng Lang. He asks him if he convinced Xia Xiaoju.
Cheng Lang reveals the girl rejected it. Xia Xiaoju shows up. She helps Cheng Lang adjusts the pole. Lu Shiyi lets Xia Xiaoju stands under the pole. Cheng Lang jumps over the pole. She witnesses his handsome figure. She falls for him.
She goes to buy him snack because he won. He worries that she will be caught by teachers. But Lu Shiyi tells Cheng Lang to care for themselves. Because their game console is in the teacher’s office. Lu Shiyi sneaks into the teachers’ office. He finds his game console. But the teacher comes back.
Lu Shiyi flees from the window. He’s in danger. Teacher Zhang shows up. Xia Xiaoju comes back after she bought buns. She witnesses it. She exposes herself for helping Lu Shiyi. Teacher Zhang asks Xia Xiaoju who she bought the buns. She claims that she bought the buns herself.
But he doesn’t believe her words. So she eats the buns in front of him. Lu Shiyi runs to Teacher Zhang. He reports to him that there was a student skipping class. Teacher Zhang scolds Lu Shiyi and Xia Xiaoju. He leaves. Lu Shiyi thanks Xia Xiaoju for helping him. But she vomits at him. It stains his clothes. He gives his clothes to her. He asks her to wash it.
Xia Xiaoju’s brother returns home when Xia Xiaoju is washing the clothes. He thinks the clothes belong to boy. He tells Xia Xiaoju that she has an early crush. Xia Xiaoju chases her brother Xia Jiashu after he threatened to report it to their parents.
Xia Xiaoju and Xia Jiashu climb to the tree. They cannot get off the tree on their own. Lu Shiyi shows up. He falls to the ground for helping Xia Xiaoju.
