Family by Choice: Episode 8 brings a shocking news to San-Ha that her mother had a car accident. Jung-Jae drives San-Ha and Dae-Wook to the train station. The father and the son arrive at the hospital in Seoul. San-Ha’s uncle is waiting for them.
The doctor tells the people that the surgery went well. Joo-Won, Hae-Joon and Jung-Jae are waiting for the result at home. They get the good news from San-Ha. San-Ha goes to Jung-Hee’s ward to see Jung-Hee. He meets with his uncle in the lobby.
So-Hee shows up when San-Ha’s uncle is going to to to So-Hee’s father’s funeral. San-Ha decides to stay for taking care of So-Hee. Dae-Wook goes against it. But San-Ha insists on doing it. Dae-Wook goes home. He blames Jung-Hee. Joo-Won meets with Hae-Joon and Park Dal. Joo-Won worries that San-Ha skipped breakfast.
San-Ha runs into his uncle when the guy has an argument with the doctor. He learns that his mother doesn’t wake up. He goes to see his mother. He remembers his mother took care of him when he was sick. He walks out of the hospital. He has a talk with Joo-Won. He promises to come back soon.
Joo-Won goes home with the tofu. Jung-Jae blames her for buying a firm tofu. She offers to go to Seoul together. But nobody is interested in it. She tells them that she’s going to hang out with Park Dal. But she plans to go to Seoul alone.
She calls Park Dal. She asks her to tell a lie for her. But Park Dal worries that if Joo-Won can take the subway well. San-Ha sits on the bench with So-Hee in the hallway. He tells her that her mother will wake up soon. She asks him to go to get her juice.
Joo-Won arrives at the hospital. She sees San-Ha. She tries to walk to him. But she witnesses him hugging So-Hee. She remembers San-Ha told her that they’re not family. San-Ha learns that his mother woke up. He texts Hae-Joon the good news.
Hae-Joon hangs out on the street. He sees Park Dal walking out of the academy. He catches her. He learns that Joo-Won went to Seoul. Joo-Won walks out of the subway station. Hae-Joon throws a fit to her. They return home. Joo-Won asks Hae-Joon not to tell her father that she went to Seoul.
Hae-Joon goes to the restaurant. He massages Jung-Jae’s shoulders. San-Ha walks out of the pharmacy. He gets a call from Dae-Wook. He tells his father that he will leave soon. But his mother wants to die after she lost her legs. He tears up in the hallway. He wipes off his tears when he sees So-Hee. He tells her that she cannot see her mother now. He lets the housekeeper take her away.
San-Ha meets with his uncle outside. His uncle persuades him to stay in Seoul for taking care of his mother. He calls Joo-Won. She doesn’t pick up his phone because she’s sleeping. He returns home. So-Hee is waiting for him. He blows out the candle. But he doesn’t make a wish.
Joo-Won wakes up. She gets a message from San-Ha. She learns that he will come back tomorrow. She tells the good news to Hae-Joon. But they find out that Jung-Jae isn’t at home. They go to the restaurant to look for Jung-Jae. They find him in the kitchen. Jung-Jae passed out last night. He doesn’t look well.
Joo-Won and Hae-Joon send Jung-Jae to the hospital. Joo-Won leaves because she needs to go to school. Jung-Jae, Hae-Joon and Dae-Wook are in the car. Jung-Jae intends to go to put up a sign for announcing that they’re closing. Hae-Joon volunteers to do the job. He gets off the car.
Jung-Jae and Dae-Wook return home. Dae-Wook yells at Jung-Jae after knowing Jung-Jae worked hard for helping Hae-Joon go to the United States. Hae-Joon overhears it when he stays outside the house. He leaves and he runs into Joo-Won. He tells her that he’s going to go to see Suk-Hoon.
Hae-Joon meets with Suk-Hoon at the playground. Suk-Hoon persuades Hae-Joon to go to the United States. Hae-Joon passes by the restaurant. He sees Jung-Jae and Joo-Won working at the restaurant. He goes to help Jung-Jae. Joo-Won asks Hae-Joon to persuade her father for giving up on opening for dinner. But he tells her to go home because he will stay.
Hae-Joon closes the restaurant with Jung-Jae. He tells him that he will go to the United States with his real father. He tears up. Jung-Jae feels helpless. He wants to keep Hae-Joon. But he has no money. Joo-Won wakes up in the morning. She runs into Jung-Jae. He goes out to buy ingredients for the breakfast.
Joo-Won waits for San-Ha on the rooftop. She sees him and she runs to him. She gives him a hug. She reveals her father passed out. Jung-Jae is busying in the kitchen. San-Ha persuades Jung-Jae not to work hard. Jung-Jae learns that his daughter told San-Ha about his passing out.
Joo-Won goes to buy eggs. San-Ha and Hae-Joon go to the rooftop. Hae-Joon reveals he’s going to go to the United States. San-Ha goes against it. Because he plans to leave as well. Joo-Won brings the eggs home. Jung-Jae asks her to go to call the boys.

San-Ha thinks Hae-Joon wants to leave for the money. Hae-Joon is furious to have a fight with San-Ha. Joo-Won overhears it. He learns that the two are going to leave.
