This is the recap for Family by Choice: Episode 4. San-Ha studies in his room in the evening. He gets a call from someone. He doesn’t pick up the phone. The next day. He washes his face in the bathroom. He goes to Joo-Won’s house to have breakfast.
Does Joo-Won Break Up with her Boyfriend?
Jung-Jae notes that San-Ha’s eyes are swollen. San-Ha claims that he needs to study hard for remaining the top ranking. Jung-Jae feeds San-Ha. The kids leave home for catching the bus. Joo-Won is on the bus. She’s excited to tell her two brothers that she’s going to begin a romance.
Hae-Joon persuades Joo-Won to give up her plan. But San-Ha doesn’t care for it. Joo-Won gets off the bus. Park Dal joins her. The two girls are happy to leave. It seems that they concealed a secret. Hae-Joon senses the crisis. But San-Ha doesn’t want to part Romeo and Juliet.
Hae-Joon gets the guy’s information soon. He reports to San-Ha that the guy Joo-Won liked is a top student. Joo-Won and Park Dal go to the guy Joon-Ho’s classroom to see him after they learned that he left a love letter on Joo-Won’s desk.
But Joo-Won bumps Joon-Ho. They go out and they go to a restaurant. They go to a cafe then. Joo-Won wants to eat the cake. But Joon-Ho goes against it because he thinks it’s too sweet. They’re outside the coffee. Joon-Ho brings up that Joo-Won has a single parent. He thinks she has a terrible family environment. She’s furious to break up with him.
Hae-Joon is at home. He’s happy to tell the family that Joo-Won got a good boyfriend. He tries to call Joo-Won. But Joo-Won returns home. She tells her family that she ended the love relationship with the guy because he didn’t like sweet. San-Ha thinks there was another reason behind the truth.
Joo-Won goes to the school. The classmates mock Joo-Won after knowing she dumped Joon-Ho. Joon-Ho shows up. He apologizes to Joo-Won. She forgives him and she agrees to be his friend. Joo-Won and San-Ha are going to leave the school. They run into Jung-Hee.
Why Does Jung-Hee Come Back?
Jung-Hee came to the school because San-Ha didn’t pick up her phone. They go to a cafe. Jung-Hee tells San-Ha that he has a younger sister. But he scolds her because he knows she doesn’t intend to introduce the sister to him. Joo-Won and Hae-Joon watch the mother and the son outside. Hae-Joon thinks Jung-Hee and San-Ha are alike. Joo-Won disagrees when she’s in anger.
She tells Hae-Joon to save San-Ha with her. But he leaves after he failed to drag her away. Jung-Hee tells San-Ha that she wants to forgive him. Hae-Joon is on the way home. He remembers his mother loved him very much. Jung-Hee brings up San-Ha’s dead sister. He’s furious to leave the cafe. Joo-Won is waiting for him. He leaves with her. Jung-Hee stares at them.
Joo-Won follows San-Ha on the street. San-Ha remembers his sister passed away because his parents weren’t at home. Joo-Won saves him before he’s hit by a truck. She throws a fit to him when he smiles at her. She learns that his mother thought he should get the punishment. She agrees to what the lady said. Because he kept making fun of them. But she’s hungry after she burned the calories. He takes her to the cafe to eat cake. She’s happy to share the cake with him.
Dae-Wook completes the task. He returns to the police station. Jung-Hee is waiting for him. She tells him that she’s hungry. So he takes her to a restaurant. She reveals she plans to take San-Ha to Seoul for his future. He goes against it and he’s furious to leave the restaurant. She follows him. He persuades her to leave the kid alone.
Does Dae-Wook Have a Talk with San-Ha?
Jung-Jae walks out of the law office. He buys some red dates. He gets a call from Dae-Wook’s colleague. He goes to the bar. The colleague leaves after he saw Jung-Jae. Jung-Jae learns that Dae-Wook drank after Dae-Wook met with his ex-wife. He persuades Dae-Wook to have a talk with San-Ha since San-Ha has met with his mother.
Jung-Hee returns home. Her daughter So-Hee is happy to welcome her. She wonders if San-Ha wanted to see her. Jung-Hee tells a lie to So-Hee. Jung-Jae is at home. He makes a glass of red dates drink for San-Ha because San-Ha because San-Ha couldn’t sleep.
San-Ha learns that his father went to drink after his father met with his mother. He reveals he told her mother not to come to see him. It makes Hae-Joon get angry. Because he loves his mother very much. He breaks into San-Ha’s room. He asks San-Ha to explain why he thought he should be happy. San-Ha reveals his mother still thought he killed his sister. He wanted to make his mother believe it.
Hae-Joon apologizes to San-Ha. He tries to leave. But he sees Joo-Won who watches them when she stands in the doorway. She mentions she doesn’t remember her mother’s face. She invites her two brothers to have ice cream together. But Hae-Joon doesn’t attend the party. He returns to his room.
Joo-Won and San-Ha walk out of the convenience store. They eat ice cream together. Joo-Won pretends to be fine after she lost her mother. San-Ha returns home when Dae-Wook is drinking San-Ha’s red dates drink. Dae-Wook tells San-Ha that he has known he met with his mother. He promises to resolve the problem. Joo-Won is outside Hae-Joon’s room. She persuades him to enjoy the ice cream. She promises to wash clothes for him for one week. He opens the door and he grabs the ice cream.
Does Hae-Joon Beat Joon-Ho?
Dong-Gu meets with the detective. He complains to him that his son didn’t accept him even if he tempted his son with his money. The detective persuades Dong-Gu to embrace Hae-Joon with his paternal love. San-Ha runs into Joon-Ho in the school. San-Ha gets angry after knowing Joon-Ho told Joo-Won that she doesn’t have a mother.
Hae-Joon is in the gym. He tries to beat his classmate after knowing the guy accepted the hamburger from his rich father. San-Ha stops Hae-Joon. He asks him to come out for Joo-Won. Hae-Joon and San-Ha drag Joon-Ho into the gym storage. The girl reports it to Joo-Won. Joo-Won goes to the gym storage. He stops Hae-Joon before he beats Joon-Ho. It seems that Hae-Joon has known that Joon-Ho told Joo-Won that she doesn’t have a mother. He disallows the guy to be his sister’s friend.
San-Ha and Joo-Won arrive at the seafood market. San-Ha thinks Joo-Won is like Hae-Joon. He persuades her not to shoulder the pain on her own. Jung-Hee visits Jung-Jae’s restaurant with So-Hee after San-Ha didn’t pick up her phone. She stays at the restaurant with her daughter for waiting for San-Ha.
Will San-Ha Go to Seoul with Jung-Hee and So-Hee?
San-Ha and Joo-Won pass by the restaurant. So-Hee recognizes San-Ha. She stops him before he leaves. Joo-Won witnesses it. San-Ha has a talk with his mother at the restaurant. Jung-Hee mentions So-Hee is like San-Ha’s dead sister. But San-Ha doesn’t care for it. He lets Joo-Won take So-Hee outside.
Joo-Won takes So-Hee to the convenience store. She buys the little girl a bottle of milk. So-Hee wishes to get a bottle of milk for San-Ha. Joo-Won learns that So-Hee likes her older brother very much. So-Hee leaks that San-Ha is going to go to Seoul with them.
Jung-Hee persuades San-Ha to go to Seoul with her. She reminds him that they’re a family. He rejects it because he has gotten a family. He takes a look at Jung-Jae. Hae-Joon is happy to return to the restaurant. His smiling is frozen after he saw Jung-Hee and San-Ha. It reminds him his mother.

San-Ha asks Jung-Hee to leave. He leaves the restaurant with Hae-Joon. Jung-Hee tries to go to chase her son. But Jung-Jae stops her. Hae-Joon persuades San-Ha to be nice to his mother when they’re outside the restaurant. But San-Ha tells Hae-Joon that his mother won’t come up when he thinks the lady told a lie to Hae-Joon. Hae-Joon is furious to beat San-Ha. San-Ha yells at Hae-Joon that they were kids who were given up by their mother when Jung-Hee walks out of the restaurant. San-Ha tears up.
